Peter Jarvis Interview

Carlton Wilkinson interviews percussionist Peter Jarvis for New Music Connoisseur newsletter/website.

In August, I had the long-delayed satisfaction of sitting down with Peter Jarvis for an exclusive New Music Connoisseur interview. Our setting was the recording studio of William Paterson University, in Wayne, N.J., where Peter teaches percussion and is the director of the in-residence New Jersey Percussion Ensemble. In this 20-minute video, Peter talks about his personal interest and motivation as a lifelong advocate of new music. Interspersed throughout are clips he provided of some remarkably exciting performances.

Running this video interview now is especially timely, given that Peter will be performing at the Nov. 7 tribute to Leo Kraft at the Greenwich House Music School in New York. Peter will be playing Pat Hardish’s “Solo for Pete” for the second time, one of the many pieces written for this extraordinary musician and new music proponent.
