New Edition of Ives’s Three Places in New England

Theodore Presser Company Publishes a New Edition of Charles Ives’s Three Places in New England for Orchestra

King of Prussia PA — Theodore Presser Company now offers an exciting performance-edition score of Charles Ives’s Three Places in New England (456-40008 - $40.00), a fusion of earlier scores that allows modern orchestras to play Charles Ives’s 1929 musical text in a full orchestration. Three Places in New England consists of three movements—“The St. Gaudens in Boston Common,” “Putnam’s Camp,” and “The Housatonic at Stockbridge”. The 2008 edition is an upgrade from the already-popular 1976 edition edited by James Sinclair, with the updated edition bearing his meticulous corrections and careful new engraving. Orchestras will finally have the opportunity to learn and perform Ives’s masterwork with this flawless 2008 Second Edition and its corresponding sets, now available though the Theodore Presser rental library.

Charles Edward Ives (1874–1954) is widely regarded as one of the first American classical composers of international significance. Underappreciated in his time, many of Ives’s works were never performed when he was alive, but has since come to be known as an American original, combining the popular and church-music traditions of his youth with European art music, and he was one of the first composers to seriously employ experimental music. His early supporters included Henry Cowell, Elliott Carter, and Aaron Copland. Ives drew from influences such as hymn tunes, traditional songs, fiddle pieces, and patriotic anthems and was also a great admirer of composer Stephen Foster, whose music he was introduced to at a young age by his Army bandleader father.

Theodore Presser Company is a full-range music publisher and distributes the music of over 30 publishers from around the globe, with a combined sales catalog that features over 60,000 available works.
