Robert ShermanRobert Sherman, current holder of NMC’s New Music Media award, for his being honored on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of “Woody’s Children, ” begun on WQXR by him in 1969. The show, now broadcast weekly over WFUV, was celebrated in an event featuring many figures of folksong legend: Peter Yarrow, Christine Lavin, Tom Paxton, and Tom Chapin, to name a few……

Debra Kaye, who was awarded a summer residency at The Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM in 2008. The music written during her stay there is influenced by the ethos of New Mexico and was scheduled to premiere at Mannes College of Music on January 31, 2009, in a concert of Ms. Kaye’s chamber music and songs. Both of the premieres were commissions. A Due, for double bass and piano, was commissioned by Basso Moderno, and the piano miniatures, Visions Fugitives, by pianist, Elizabeth Wolff…..

Carlton Wilkinson, NMC Associate Publisher and Ph. D. in Music Composition, for his article “John Lennon’s ‘Revolution 9’,” which is scheduled to appear in the November issue of Perspectives of New Music (Vol. 47, #1). The article presents an overview, a detailed analysis and a reading of the dense sound collage that appeared on the Beatles’s “White Album.” Coincidentally, the publication is timed to the 40th anniversary of the release of that album and comes hot on the heels of Carlton’s 50th birthday…..
